If you use UPI apps then there is an important news for you. Actually, National Payment Corporation of India has ordered all UPI apps like Gpay, Paytm, Phonepe and BharatPe to close inactive UPI accounts. The UPI accounts of those people who have not used their UPI ID for the last one year will be closed. All companies will start closing such accounts after December 31.
This decision was taken for this reason
According to TRAI’s order, telecom companies can issue the deactivated SIM card to another user after 90 days. That means, if a person does not use a number for 90 days, then it will be given to another person. The problem is when the same number is also associated with the bank and the user has not updated his new number with the bank account. What will happen is that whoever gets that number will activate the UPI apps with its help because the same number is linked with the bank. To save people from this problem, NPCI has instructed UPI apps to close all the accounts which have been inactive for the last one year.
NPCI has said this
National Payments Corporation of India’s circular directs TPAP and PSP banks to identify the UPI ID, associated UPI number and phone number of customers who have not conducted any financial or non-financial transaction through the UPI app for one year Is. NPCI has asked to block the UPI ID and UPI number of such customers from inward credit transactions and deregister them from UPI Mapper. To restart inward credit transactions, customers will have to re-register with their UPI app and link their UPI ID.
